1998 Pinot Noir
OConnor Vineyard Release Date: 5/26/00 Retail Price $: 22.00 Availability: 614 cases Production Notes OConnor Vineyard is centrally located in the rolling hills eleven miles northwest of Salem, Oregon. The grapes come from Pinot noir block #1, established in 1982, which has a southeast slope of well-drained silty loam soil at an average elevation of 350'. The grapes were fermented in a small tank after two days of cold maceration. The wine aged for 17 months without racking or fining in 34% new oak barrels and was bottled without filtering. A small amount of sediment may accumulate during the aging process and is normal for wine produced in this manner. Crop Level: 2.4 tons/acre This Pinot noir complements sweet meat entrees - grilled salmon, lamb chops, filet - and is drinkable at release or will benefit from aging up to 7 years. |

Winemaker Notes
This is the last vintage; the entire vineyard is now under contract to Willamette Valley Vineyards. I like the98 because it reminds me of how much fun it is to drink this wine in a great vintage.
Tasting Notes
Complex layered red and black cherry fruit, menthol, and berry compote aromas. The 98 has more viscosity, weight, and softer tannins than the 97. Finishes with darker fruit nuances that linger long after the wine leaves your mouth. The wood adds weight, structure, and a nice cocoa component. Will go well with grilled salmon, lamb chops, and tenderloin.
