Production Notes

Shea Vineyard is located in the Yamhill foothills, 35 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon. The Pinot noir was planted in 1990 on a hillside of shallow Willakenzie soil. It has a southeast exposure at an elevation of 350'to 500'.

The grapes were fermented in a small tank after two days of cold maceration. The wine aged for 17 months without racking or fining in 40% new oak barrels and was bottled without filtering. A small amount of sediment may accumulate during the aging process and is normal for wine produced in this manner.

Crop Level: 2.0 tons/acre
Harvest: 10/2/98
Bottled: February 2000

This Pinot noir complements sweet meat entrees - grilled salmon, lamb chops, filet - and is drinkable at release or will benefit from aging up to 8 years.

Winemaker Notes
This is our first harvest of Pinot noir from Shea Vineyard. We will double this production in 1999. Our block is located in the lower SW corner and is planted with the Pommard clone. This block seems to produce wines with darker fruit and floral notes than the rest of the vineyard.
Tasting Notes
The aroma jumps out of the glass with BRIGHT fruit of raspberries and black raspberries. Floral aromas of rose, lavender and a hint of sage. The mouth fills with black and red fruits; it’s almost like chewing dried fruit. Lovely balanced acidity backs up the fruit. The finish lingers with flower petal and dried fruit flavors scattered over you palate. Try cheese, venison, and (I hate to admit it) quiche lorraine with lots of onions.
