Production Notes
Temperance Hill Vineyard is located in the hills formed by an ancient volcanic uplift ten miles northwest of Salem, Oregon. The Pinot noir grapes come from the eastern edge of the vineyard, which was planted in 1984 on thin weathered basalt at an average elevation of 720'.
The grapes were fermented in a small bins after three days of cold maceration. The wine aged for 16 months in 35% new American oak barrels and was bottled without filtration. A small amount of sediment may accumulate during the aging process and is normal for wine produced in this manner. Crop Level 1.9 tons/ acre Harvest 10/9/01 Bottled March 2003
This Pinot noir complements grilled meat entrees - salmon, lamb chops, pork tenderloin, filet - and is drinkable at release or will benefit from aging up to 5 years.

Winemaker Notes
In 2001 Mother Nature provided close to ideal growing conditions for Pinot noir in Oregon. The biggest challenge was to control the very generous crop that resulted from excellent weather during bloom in mid-June. We saw the generous crop early and cut severely... perhaps too severely. Our yield at Temperance Hill was reduced 20% over the tonage picked in 2000. Our loss is your gain and the wine is that much more concentrated. We just have less to sell.
Tasting Notes
The wine has ripe, rich cherry fruit, nuances of aromatic red cedar, and sweet floral aromas of lilac and wisteria. Black cherries dominate the mouth with a layer of smokey oak and hints of spice. It is a great match with grilled meats and summer is the season to grill. I can drink anything, but when the grill is hot, Temperance Hill is how I cool down. By the end of the summer, Temperance Hill will gain weight and complexity. It will develop over 3-4 years more years. Try it, you WILL like it.
