1998 Blanc de Noir
Release Date: 11/29/02 Retail Price $: 18.00 Availability: 124 cases Production Notes Oregon's cool climate is well suited to the grapes used to produce sparkling wine. Pinot noir and Chardonnay grapes ripen slowly without losing their natural acidity. The wines produced have a balance of flavors and a richness that is enhanced by estended lees aging. The méthode champenoise is a technique developed by French monks and refined by the great French Champagne houses. The sparkle or mousse is created by a second fermentation in this bottle. The wine is then aged for three years to develop flavors and aromas typical of vintage sparkling wine before being disgorged. The 1998 Blanc de noir is made from 100% Pinot noir. The clones used are the same as those grown in Champagne. The dosage is 1.0% sugar. Disgorged: Novemober 2002 The 1998 Blanc de noir complements richly flavored foods-smoked salmon, oysters, sushi-and may be aged up to a decade. |

Tasting Notes
This is our last Blanc de noir sparkling wine. It is made entirely from Pinot noir grown at O'Connor Vineyard and are the same clones used in the Champagne region of France. I have finally achieved the richness of an all Pinot noir sparkling wine with delicate varietal fruit and great acidity. Nutty and toasted peasant bread aromas are followed by flavors of apples, citrus, nuts and a hint of pear. The wine has lovely acidity and would be a great match with shellfish, smoked salmon, or oysters. Only 124 cases made.
